Crater Lake to Shelter Cove
Two thirty-mile days, a lake at sunrise and the miles starting to come.

After Crater Lake, I did 30.8 miles on day 103 and 30.4 the next day into Shelter Cove. I had wanted to push myself, and I was doing it now.
There weren’t nearly as many photos as in the Sierra. I photographed the Oregon and Washington high-point sign on day 103, then a lake and the red sun through the trees the next morning. My day title was “getting the miles”.
Quoted lines are from my 2021 logs, verbatim.

At Summit Lake I left a FarOut comment saying that, if I went back, I would walk the dirt road instead, especially at sunrise. The PCT went back into the woods with extra ups and downs and the view of the lake got blocked. The road had the views.
I had more long days ahead after Shelter Cove. During that Oregon stretch, I was saying some of the water carries had been worse than the desert.

The food, then and now
My Oregon planning note worked through the carries between Ashland, Crater Lake and Shelter Cove, counting dinners and oats. I usually cooked my meals. I don’t remember what I ate or bought at Shelter Cove.
Hikers reported vegan breakfast burritos at Shelter Cove in August 2026, including one with Beyond meat and vegetables. Resupply reports from the same month varied, with some hikers finding enough and others missing staples such as tortillas and dried fruit. The resort’s current FAQ confirms resupply box holds through UPS, FedEx and USPS. Ask for its current mailing instructions before shipping. Checked October 8, 2026.
