Julian to Idyllwild

Six desert days past Eagle Rock and mile 100, ending at the best food stop in Southern California.

Day seven I hit mile 100. “Triple digits club!” is what I posted, standing at the 100 laid out in rocks with my poles in the air, right around Eagle Rock. One hundred down. Twenty-six hundred to go. The math was not something I looked at directly.

Every quoted line is from 2021, verbatim.

The push to Paradise Valley Cafe took two more long days past water tanks and a cache some trail angel keeps stacked by the Riverside County Line sign. Other hikers’ comments in the app that week read like a parallel radio channel. You walk on those reports all day.

Day ten I hitched into Idyllwild, and Idyllwild delivered.
