Etna to Ashland via Seiad Valley
The long road walk through Seiad Valley, the Oregon line, then three zeros in Ashland.

Leaving Etna, I called day 91 “Only a 25”. It was 25.1 miles. The next day was mostly downhill, then into and through Seiad Valley. I remember that stupid long road walk.
There was a small store with basic supplies. I got wifi there and wrote, “Finally less than 1000 to go.” I had never heard of the State of Jefferson before. The signs and all the Trump stuff were pretty funny to me.
Quoted lines are from my 2021 logs, verbatim.

I crossed the Oregon line on July 31, day 93. I had made a three- or four-week push to finish California. There had been hundred-degree days, long water carries, high passes, mosquitoes, fires, hail and thunderstorms. Plenty of smiles and frustration too.
By then we were doing twenty-sixes to twenty-nines. I got into Ashland on day 94, a day earlier than planned, and took three zeros. There was time to go around the stores and sort out the next resupply.

The food, then and now
I don’t remember exactly what I bought in Seiad Valley. In Ashland I went around the grocery stores, then recommended Shop’n Kart in my August 3 FarOut comment. It had dried goods and a crazy bar selection. ProBars were $2.60 when I was there.
Hikers reported a solid vegan selection at Seiad Valley Store in June 2026. The store also posted in May 2026 that it was accepting resupply boxes, but could no longer forward or bounce them. In Ashland, Shop’n Kart’s current site lists hummus, tofu, plant milks and yogurt alternatives. Checked October 8, 2026.
